چکیده

Background: Patients with single primary melanomas have an increased risk of developing subsequent melanomas. Second tumors diagnosed within three months the incident lesion are termed “synchronous”, while “asynchronous” outside this window. Objective: Compare tumor distributions and survival characteristics patients synchronous asynchronous second to Methods: Retrospective cohort study. Data were collected from institutional database 14,029 a diagnosis melanoma seen between 1970 2004. Results: The demonstrated significantly improved probability compared (p=.04 .002, respectively). After controlling for relevant covariates, only group significant advantage over (HR: 0.76, p=.02). Single primaries (2.2mm, SD=2.3) thicker than (2.0mm, SD=1.7) lesions (1.7mm, SD= 1.3). Synchronous more likely be concordant (55.7% vs 38.2%, p<.001). Limitations: Limitations include single-center study design, incomplete records specifically pertaining Breslow depth data melanomas, database-level lack histopathologic characteristics. Conclusion: thinner Our reported support role full-body skin exams (FBSE’s), attention region initial diagnosis.

Survival for patients with single and multiple primary melanomas: the genes, environment, and melanoma study.

IMPORTANCE Little is known about survival after a diagnosis of a second or higher-order (multiple) primary melanoma, and no study has explored survival in a population-based sample that included patients with single primary melanomas (SPMs) and multiple primary melanomas (MPMs) of any stage. Because people with a first primary melanoma are known to have an increased risk of being diagnosed with...

Multiple Primary Acral Lentiginous Melanomas (MPALM)

We present a rare case of a patient with multiple primary acral lentiginous melanomas of the foot. We would like to highlight the importance of whole-skin examination in all patients, even by the general practitioners, aiming the maximal early detection of acral lentiginous melanomas, considering their rapid progression, early metastatic spread and extremely poor prognosis. It can be extrapolat...

Multiple primary thick melanomas: similar dermoscopic pattern

It has been observed that a patient’s “normal” moles resemble each other clinically. This concept also applies to dermoscopic observations, as shown by our previous demonstration that an individual’s nevi tend to have one to three predominant overall dermoscopic patterns [1]. A recent study investigated and compared the dermoscopic patterns of multiple primary melanomas (MPMs) in a large series...

Surgery of Primary Melanomas

Surgery remains the mainstay of melanoma therapy, regardless of the tumor site. Only the early diagnosis combined with proper surgical therapy currently gives patients affected by this malignancy the chance for a full cure. The main goal of surgical therapy is to provide the local control of the disease and to secure long-term survival of the patient without reasonable functional and esthetic i...
